Sexy black serpentine witch old hag magic

Voodoo priestess SanterĂa angles and curves primitive howls

(Those are just some words/phrases which the lead singer's voice and performance style made me think of.
)

She had a similar haircut as Diane, and actually, when I first caught a quick glimpse of it, I had a momentary lapse and thought D. was back. I loved her outfit. Angles on top, more curvy below. The comma button on my keypad is not working well. It feels sticky.

She had joyous rollicking movements, and would scream-yell into the microphone. I really don't do a good job of describing music so, let me find you something that a pro wrote. Dot dot dot ... know what I can't find any. They're from Brooklyn. (Oh, I'm talking about These Are Powers by the way oops.)

Blurry pic of Anna from These Are Powers -

The drummer for Vivian Girls was ____ (no words). She was like a cross between Ugly Betty and a House Frau but not. Totally not. I really appreciate a good drummer.

The people circled in red are the blonde girl's grandparents. The grandma had that proud grin on her face during the whole set. Time for a collective Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

I was too lazy to set up my tripod ... old school mirror pic!

Coming back on the subway, two guys who were also at the show were talking -

Guy #1: snicker snicker Sooo...what'd you think of them? snicker snicker
Guy #2: smirk smirk They (Vivian Girls) are basically like an all-female version of Blink 182.

Um. No you're a fucking idiot.

This was the first show I went to by myself.

I feel like I'm writing really shallow things. I teared up a bit during the really intense parts of Anna's and the drummer's performances. It must've made me happy or something.

OH!!! And I should warn you, just in case you decide to check out These Are Powers, for me PERSONALLY, listening to them online gives me a headache, but I do love her LIVE performance. Just sayin'. (No offense Anna if you happen to read this.) I'm just not cool enough to appreciate it. =(

Find me!

Ahahahha too funny. Diane sent me a video she found of the Abe Vigoda show we went to, and you can actually spot me in it! WHERE'S WALDO TIME!

Here's what I looked like that day:

Annnd here is the short video clip:

In the far shot, I look kinda small and forlorn.

(Hint: It's at around 0:43)

*Pointed Look*

EDIT: whooo Diana has all her songs and is going to send them to me!!! Thank youuuu!!! Yeah, she's really expensive on Amazon.
Emma-Lee Moss, known by her stage name of Emmy the Great, is a London based singer-songwriter. Moss was born in Hong Kong, and as a child she emigrated with her family to London. A proponent and member of the London anti-folk scene...She is also noted for her evocative and thought-provoking lyrics, and her inventive way with rhyme.
(ok that last sentence could really be about anyone but...)

"I am a woman, well, you know I'm a woman."

That line gets stuck in my head without fail when I listen to this song.

Other cool videos by her:

Jay in kay you're wondering, no I did not get my blog name from her. I came up w/ it when thinking of good names for a girl. I'm into name meanings and these 2 had really interesting ones. I like the contrast and the way they sound together. Then a while later, I saw this band on a list compiled by Angry Chicken.

Edward is Dedward is good too!

Diane left and I'm left with a gaping hole in my soul. Just a tip to y'all: if you ever visit New York or some other highly touristy place, stay for at least two weeks. Not one. Otherwise, you WILL become frazzled on the last day, drink more than you should, and fall down a flight of stairs. LOL. Not saying that happened, just hypothetically ya know?

We did a lot in the short time we had! We saw a disappointing movie; 500 Days of Summer, met up in Central park with Rich, Suzanne, Jessica, and a small group of other fashion bloggers, went to 2 museums, a show, annnnd hmmm other little miscellaneous things??? We did NOT get to go shopping at Beacon's together, or hang out NEARLY enough, or see an actual GOOD movie...STAY TWO WEEKS NEXT TIME!!!!!!!!!

We got along really well (does that even need to be said?) and we nonverbally agreed to NOT take any pics together because it feels weird and forced to be like, unh we are two bloggers and therefore we MUST take photos together to prove that we actually met and had a fun time. No. Sorry. It would've been fun to see us side by side...maybe next time.

okay, so honest truth - When I first saw her, I was surprised by how tiny she was. But I got used to it quickly as her 'real life' personality came to the forefront. Also, I was expecting her to have a more low and boyish voice, but her voice is actually pretty high! I think I'm the one who has a low boyish voice sometimes? Haha?

She gave me a plastic ziploc bag!!! Which as you know from my last post, I love.

I'll just talk about the show we went to and the Weardrobe meetup...and I fucking miss her! Another person to add to my short list of people who make me wish California was right next to New York.

Okay, so the show was better than I expected. Good job GROOM and Abe Vigoda. Props for performing with such gusto in front of a STILL, staring crowd.

The drummer for the first band was brutal. Bashing so hard he lost like 3 drum sticks. They just went whizzing out of his hand. And the singer for Abe was a pug with a sweet breathless voice who was sweating buckets. He was also dancing like he had no penis which was great.

pip pip splendid view.

It was kinda funny how there was an audience OUTside staring at us. Whoa whoa whoa who's on display here. I'm looking at the band and you people and you're all looking at us and the bands' backsides and yeah...lots of looking goin on.

The Whitney Museum is AWESome and I can't believe I never heard of it and that it took someone from California to alert me of its presence. Durrrrrr. They had the best selection of books including this one and one about phone sex workers. I never knew Mapplethorpe had such a complex volatile relationship with Patti Smith! I need to finish reading this.

Casual outfits these past few days. It's hot and humid here and lots of walking in the city = tee and shorts are the best. Plus, it feels good to not be conscious at all of the way I look & that's easier to do when I wear what I slept in.

I'm writing this at 2:08 in the AM and it's already tomorrow. Later today, Diane and I are going to central park to chill and check out the Weardrobe thing, then maybe Brooklyn for Beacon's.

(oh and Diane's awesome and no awkwardness at all. We both like to spy/evesdrop on subway couples and talk about Kevin Barnes and MJ and other music related stuff.)

About Me.

10 Things You Didn't Know
(Thanks Ana.)

1) I like to play with the corners of plastic ziploc bags. It feels good. I have a bunch lying around my room and I'll probably be buried with one clutched in my cold dead hands. (People in middle school thought I was a drug dealer btw. Whispered about me on the bus fyi.)

Ziploc Bag @ Emy Augustus

2) This is my cell phone background. Got it from the back of a CD case. (guess which one?)

3) I'm seeing Diane from DarlingDarlingg later & we're gonna go to the MET. I'm kinda nervous. It's my first "Blogger Meetup" ooooooooh. Hellofearofnotmeetinguptoexpectations/notgettingalongin'real'lifeasopposedtobloggerworld! Hi!
But it's okay cuz, I'm merely meeting Diane at the MET. Hm. Almost a tongue twister.

4) I'm an aspiring horticulturalist/botanist. Meaning, I just planted 5 sunflower seeds and I love them like they're my pets/babies/symbolic. They each have their own personalities too! Two are the strong healthy ones, one is the runt that came out with a moldy leaf, one got stuck in it's shell so I had to help it out, and one is just average.

Sunflower Sprouts @ Emy Augustus
Oh hewwo there widdle seedwings!

5) I worked at a lock store because a. I didn't want to be a cashier, and b. I wanted to defy stereotypes in some small realistic way cuz it's easier than going back to school, majoring in math AND science and becoming a professor of both. Yah Noeeeeeee???

6) When I was 6, my mom put a little ant on my back (after I just took a shower) and told me it was going to crawl up my butt. Interesting sense of humor that woman. Read: SADISTIC.

7) She also told me there was a photo of my dad at the bottom of a big cardboard box and when I bent down to find it, shut the top on me, KNOWING that I'm slightly claustrophobic. What did I say????

8) I like you.

9) When I first started this blog, I thought it would be like a prayer journal / record of my spiritual growth and thus I wrote deep Thoughts. All words, no pictures. Like, can you imagine??? Whoa.

10) Yep I used to be a serious Christian. Then lots of little things happened to change that. One of which involved going to a cult-like church where people hugged each other Every. Freakin. Time they saw each other on Sundays. Fucking creepy. G.T.F.A.F.M.

Snape is hot from the neck down or if you blur out his face. Draco's always been hot.

When I walk into a trendy store like Urban Outfitters, the thing that pops into my head is: w a s t e (via Diana). Maybe a small percentage of it will make it into future thrift stores and become 'vintage' but the vast majority will become:

Land Fill @ Emy Augustus

confident pose vs. not - complex geometries

Outer shirts from friend's mom / Inner tee from Beacon's

I really want to just take what I have and challenge myself to use it in new ways, ya know shop 2nd hand when I get really bored, buy from tall dorks who turn castaways into awesomeness, and take what kind and generous people give me (like Linda's mom). My noble goal is definitely helped by the fact that I'm poor.

Besides, the styles I saw at UO were boring anyway. Plaid, bright colors, florals. WOW SO ORIGINAL.

I think personality and spirit is what really gives life to clothes. Like, you could have the same shirt, and it will feel and look different from one day to the next. Huh? right.

Check out Diane's Music Monday post featuring the music I like!

Cocorosie is having a show in NY Sept. 2nd that is uhhh lets see, 9 days before my birfday. Let's go! I hope they play Kitty Kat. The song scared me when I first heard it. That's why I love it.

Dark Alice

Can't believe I haven't posted this dress yet. It's one of my favs. I found it in Marshalls and it had 3 white heart shaped buttons down the front and Diana seam ripped them off. Big improvement. Trust me. It also has 2 roomy hidden pockets. Win.

TV:

People who make fun of others are just petty and insecure not to mention jealous and they will never reach any successes in Life.
AND YOU'RE HOLDING UP THE WRONG HAND DOOFUS.

And now, onto a new topic. WHITE AND YELLOW or as I like to call it, scrambled egg couples.

I've noticed that the closer you get to trendy spots in the city, like 5th avenue, pier 54, etc, the more inter-racial couples you see. And by that I of course mean white guy + asian woman. And in one case, Indian woman.

Seriously, yesterday alone, during 1 hour's walk, I saw around 12 such couples. I spent an entire subway ride pondering this mystery. Are Asian women more willing to assimilate to popular culture? Are they more restricted by parents and thus more likely to rebel in a 'safe' way? Am I just selectively blind and completely missing any Asian man/white woman couples???

If you guys have any theories, please share.

I think it all depends on context. Smithtown is 99.984624897 White. The few (3) Asian guys around were like strange and awkward weeds. There was also this taboo in Middle School and High school where it was, oh well, They expect us to hang out together cuz we're Asians, so we're gonna avoid each other at all costs.

The 2 years I lived in Southern California, I got crushes on a fair amount of Asian dudes. There were a ton more of them. Some really Americanized, others were total FOBS, and lots of in-betweens. So IDON'TKNOW for me it's about having a wide and diverse variety to PICK FROM??? But surely that can't explain it for everyone cuz that would mean that...I lost my train of thought.

I just hope that whoever I choose to love is based on individual needs and not on race, religion, governmental conspiracies, or media lies. Cuz you know advertising likes to make the white guy look like the superior one. Pshhh I refuse to believe that.

HA, tried finding some examples on google images and failed, buttttt on the regular search, the minute I typed in Asian women, I got prompted with "Asian women white men". Seems like lots of people are wondering the same thing. I wonder if any psychology/sociology people have done a study on this yet.

Lol there's a blog called Yellow Fever Flagger, and this guy defending his preference for Asian women.

Also, my roomy Linda was telling me that @ the company where she works (which has to do with computer programming), most of the workers are white guys with Asian wives. iiiinnnnteresting.

Bento Bento Fo-Fento Me Mi Mo Mental

God I'm clever.

Here's our Bento Box! (see last post)
Beat that Winnie!!!!!

(you probably will)

Bento

Hello little octopus

Bento

Okay, so we don't have ALL of the 5 colors. I do believe it's missing black. But I thought it was ingenious to use sunflower seeds (instead of black sesame) for the eyes; it just skewers right in there!

Instead of spinach in the egg, we used sweet basil. I also used a thin slice of raw bell pepper as a boundary type thing and also a little dish to hold the ketchup in. I like my eggs with Ketchup. The dark slabs (heyyy that could pass as black) are portabella mushrooms. My sister and I finished this way too quickly considering the time it took to make.

What I'm wearing right now:
Desperate Housewife Desperate Housewife

Everything I'm wearing is from Linda's childhood closet. Thank you Lindaaaa!
And Thanks WINNIE for sharing that epic vid. It was fun, educational, and yummy.

Current soundtrack of my life:
Of Montreal Skeletal Lamping

Strike me! Like a robocop. with your riding crop.

Diane from DarlingDarling blog is coming to NY yay. I can't wait to hang out with her.

Winnie shared this video on twitter, and even though I *never* watch videos people share online - call it an odd yet charming quirk of mine, I did watch this one cuz I like cooking and was curious about Bento meals.

tomorrow, Diana and I are going to try our own take on this. I'm not following the steps/ingredients exactly; just gonna use what I have and "make it my own". However, one thing I am doing exactly like her is the Octopi sausage. I think that is mad cool.

Not sure how it will turn out. I'll post pics of the finished product. I just love their philosophy of balance in nutrition and color! (5 colors - yellow, green, red, white, and black) It's also clever because the more choices you have, the quicker you get full. Hence, staying healthy and not obese. Hence, how buffet restaurants make their money.

::Edit:: I think my favorite part is when she arranges it all neatly at the end haha!

Finally got my camera back after a week of missing my THIRD EYE, and I ran around the apartment experimenting with the best spot lighting wise to take outfit photos.

floralzzzz

The floral scarf is made from excess fabric from this dress.

I've been reading a lot...

Really liking this from Diane's shop:

"...and sometimes she scolded herself so severely as to bring tears to her eyes; and once she remembered trying to box her own ears for having cheated herself in a game of croquet she was playing against herself, for this curious child was very fond of pretending to be two people."

- epic random quote from Alice In Wonderland

I've been kinda easily stressed lately. Hope you guys aren't.

7/4/09

The clever ones always have a touch of madness.

Putting together a bed frame is harder than you think.
My room is pretty much DONE. The bed was a bitch. A real bitch. We forgot to bring the thing the wooden slats are supposed to rest on, soooo basically, it's an empty frame with the mattress on the floor. Lying in it, I can't decide whether it reminds me of a crib or a coffin. I like it though!
Plus side, I can jump on it w/o worrying about breaking the bed, Down side, I have to CLIMB in and out.

Also, genius here bought the camera charger and USB cord but no camera. Linda let me use hers though thank goodness.

oh so I did nothing for the 4th of July. Just cooked lots of little meals with my sister, stored some money in the bank, and read Sherlock Holmes. What did you guys do?

OK now this is the part where I inundate you with pictures of my new room. (If you are coming to this blog for the first time, I just moved into my first apartment (I'm 22)).

The view.

First thing I see upon waking up -

COMMAND CENTRAL OH YEAH

And what the hey, here's an outfit I wore back at the old house.

My inspiration was Starburst wrappers. I wrapped fishnet stockings around my neck, then just kept adding things for a cluttered look to contrast with the simple outfit.

I was also ~inspired~ (dunno what other word to use, influenced?) by re-listening to my old favorite band Relient K. Happy music. And by the rain outside. I tend to wear bright colors when it's gloomy out. And by, viewers like you. Thank you.
