(YAWN) Good Morning!

Okay so I woke up at 1:15 with some major crampage. Made some tea and sat in bed feeling sorry for myself for about 20 minutes ... and now, thanks to the tea and the interesting distractions of the Internet ... I feel all better!

Just listed this on etsy -

Hope you fare well Ms queen of the carrot flowers!

Anyways, I went on facebook and got a pleasant shock. My cousin in China, whom I never added, 'accepted my friend request'. How do you accept a friend request that I never sent??? Well whatever, she commented on one of my pics in Chinese and I don't know what it says!

She's in the red, I'm in the blue.

My Favorite Designer

Regardless of what Susie or Bryan have said in older posts, I am the ULTIMATE fashion outsider. And I am okay with that. Thanks to the fw posts of other bloggers, I've kept good tabs on what's been going on. I did a bit of research on one who caught my eye (first spotted on Tavi's post), and decided that -

I ♥ Libertine.

Here's what I found (from style.com)

*Items marked in red are hideous monstrosities.

Why I Like This Designer :
- It reminds me of early punk (which I've never listened to but like the idea of)
Ex: God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols
- It's like the designers treated fabric as a blank piece of paper and just drew on it. Blank paper excites me.
- The word definitions that are subtly hinted at in the designs.
Libertine : a freethinker, especially in religious matters. A person who is unrestrained by convention or morality; specifically, one leading a dissolute life.
Dissolute : lacking restraint; marked by indulgence in deemed vices (as drink or promiscuous sex).

What do you like or dislike about this designer and why???

Hello Kitty is not just for 0 - 10 yr olds

While the 34-year-old Hello Kitty character is usually assumed to be a cat, she is actually a girl, according to Sanrio. And a girl without a mouth, so she “speaks from the heart,” the company said. “She may not have a mouth, but she’s going to sell a lot of lipstick”...

1) Reminds me of the overall concept of Coraline - Girl follows black cat down tunnel to a different (literally, darker) world.
2) Also a hint of Alice in Wonderland here
3) Seems to me the Hello Kitty brand is trying to expand its market and make more money.

In-store visuals ... show the polar opposite aspects of the collection. One is an image of a blonde model holding a black vinyl Hello Kitty doll, which will be part of the accessory line. The other visual is what Gager terms “more of a dominatrix creature.” The point, said Gager, is to show that makeup can be transformative.

Side note : a girl without a mouth so she speaks with her heart??? Wow. Just wow.

Very un-affordable Etsy finds =(

By very, I mean ... don't even think about it, completely outta my league, not unless I am a rich millionaire then maybe I could. Well who cares about being rich anyways? So what if I can't own these lovely pieces of artwork oops I mean clothes.

I could care less.
(LIES LIES ALL LIES!!!)

Okay first up from My Favorite Vintage we have this amazing rose petal inspired wisp of an amazing thing.
(Click on the pictures to go to each specific listing)

(Price : $350.00)

Please please pleaaase if I have a secret rich grandma somewhere, buy me this! Sure it's only kinda appropriate for the stage or for fancy dinner parties that I will never be invited to... but what does that matter???

Next, we have a broadway play worthy tutu from Ouma Clothing

($145.00)

I really recommend you to click on this shop because she has other dreamy tutus in all kinds of colors.
Like this minty green -

($168.00)

Well in all seriousness, since my paintings are sometimes a form of wishful thinking, this just means that you might see some pictures of girls who may look kinda like me, wearing dresses that may look kinda like the above items.

I got interviewed by Ruby. It was short and fun to do. The last question asked me what my favorite part of the internet was, and of course I said fashion blogs! I included a few of my favs under there sooo who knows... maybe it'll cause some girl or guy to stumble upon the awesomeness of DIY and street style fashion.

PS- for the tutu shop, I really like how the designer contrasts the floaty soft tutu fabric with strong bold geometric stripes. At first I didn't like it and thought the tutus might be better paired with some pretty floral prints in matching or contrasting colors, but nah - that's too easy. The stripes are better.

Yellow

You know what I realized? I haven't done an outfit post in forever! I think the last one was the Arabian Nights inspired dress.

here's an outfit in my favorite color!

The colorful details about this one is... the dress was modified (by me) from a slip that was part of a dress from the girl's section of Target. Striped socks were a recent purchase from Target and sadly, they are WAY TOO TIGHT!!! I tried them on my arms as possible arm warmers but even there they were too tight. What were the makers thinking??? We are not all Twiggies ya know! And they'd probably pinch Twiggy's legs too. Stupid designers...

The cardigan is another one my mom gave me that I had to tailor to fit ... ( 2 down (red & purple), one more (green one) to blog about...)

And my favorite part(s) - I sewed a bunch of fun little buttons down the front of the dress and replaced the plain yellow string with a satiny green ribbon I had lying around.

Here's a close up :

I've read a couple chapters from this book in an attempt to get a better grasp on applying to grad school and I tell you, this book is evil - EVIL I SAY!!!

Read a few paragraphs and you'll suddenly experience heart palpitations, find it hard to breathe, and get woozy in the head. Curse you institutionalized education, and curse you Insecurity!!!

blegh. Good night.

Again! Blog love.

I got this from the purple lovin' Janet.

But ...
I know some of you don't like the aesthetics ... so I mentioned it to my sister and she made this (hand-drawn) badge for us :

So much better! A thousand thank you's Diana!

And thank you Janet. I'm happy that you like my blog.
I haven't had time to explore to my heart's content, but I did come across a few new ones I liked.

Brambles & Rambles
They Wanted To Capture The Youth
Leopard Prints & Lace
Daydream Lily

Rules :

An in-between blog

I just want to share some nerdy pics with you tonight before the main post tomorrow night. I got an award from a new blogger friend BUT I'm gonna save it for later because the award badge is ... (no offense to its creater) ... kinda' ugly. I am happy to get it of course, but my sister, who is really handy at html stuff is gonna make me a nicer looking one. I'm sure the people I pass it on to will appreciate the new design. Everyone will be happier and no hurt feelings!
Okay why does that sound like a Kindergarten teacher's mantra??? OH, cuz it probably is. Right.

Moving on, here's nerdy ol' me. (I'm normally much more attractive)

Here's nerdy ol' boyfriend (who is normally much uglier).

KIDDING!!! Don't tickle me.

:: The hat is from China and belonged to a railroad worker; 3D glasses from the theater, & my scarf is thrifted from Beacon's Closet in Brooklyn ::

Stripes and Plaid

(a painting by Seonna Hong, words added by me on Paint)

Me when I just rolled outta bed.

{  OH my gosh speaking of just rolling out of bed... I took a nap today and had a dream that really demonstrates how I eat, drink, and DREAM fashion blogs. I dreamt a lady was giving away an outfit which consisted of a furry purple cape-like thing and a crystal amulet necklace, and she said the person who wrote the best blog post about it would win the outfit. And I totally was plotting in my dream how to win it. I also dreamt that there were giant flat fish / crab-like things coming out of the Hudson River and eating clean laundry... but that's irrelevant.  }

The 2nd pic is me and my sister before we went to get her some new glasses.
I'm wearing my dad's old shirt which is nicely frayed at the collar and cuffs (being 20 years old will do that to ya), and skinny jeans from Target.

Then, because I'm cool like Michelle Obama and change my outfits 2(0) times a day, this is what I wore later to work -

At Hudson River Park (Manhattan) where the weather was FABoo but cold n' windy.

A black apple statue (with a worm hole) to represent the artist's love for new york. I thought maybe this meant that the viewer is supposed to be like a worm, eating through the city and digesting the city and becoming ONE with the city.

I am working on a painting for my boyfriend which will be finished wayyy after V-day.  Oh well.  I also  wrote him a poem that is really really dorky and hillarious and I cannot wait to share it.  He he he he he ...

NYC part two

I was able to get two cheap dresses from the open air flea market. A blue one and a red one. The guy wanted $16 for both, but I 'talked him down' to $13 cuz the red one had a ripped collar. (MEANING, I insecurely asked, all the while expecting him to frown at me like I'm the devil incarnated and snatch the pretty vintage dresses from my hands while making threatening gestures) Instead, he agreed so quickly that I instantly wished I'd asked for more off. Oh snap.

We went on the top balcony of The New Museum. It was SUCH a nice day and windy too! Warm and windy = good combo.

The bottom half of me. I'm wearing my sister's beat up and falling apart cheapo sneakers from Wal*Mart. They hurt my feet after a while cuz they're a bit too big, but i love beat up old shoes. They are charming. To me at least.
How awesome would this chair be in a pinky frilly princess room? Just for the artistic statement it would make, cuz I personally wouldn't want a pink frilly room. I really don't get why antlers were used. Frogs and Deer??? Okay.

And this was weird - a gay doll who is also Spanish... haha cool. The small print on the box say : THE WORLD'S FIRST OUT AND PROUD BOYFRIEND

My boyfriend wants one of these hats. Totally get one!!! They were MAD CHEAP too.

what would the city be without some interesting street art ...

On the way out, there was this display room that I think, I think, was about the resourcefulness of poor people in China. Check out that DIY toy gun!

Tomorrow I'll be going to the city yet again to check out a certain city school's psychology program. And I didn't win weardrobe's winter whites contest but I'm really excited to enter the new ruffles contest. I have a outfit planned out with one of the dresses (or both!) that I got at the flea market. Ahhh excitement, and NOT of the Frank McCourt type!!!

New York City smells like fish. NO, Freedom!

Part One

Diana and I went to Madison Square Park for a little rest before our journey. The wooden structures are part of an art project by a Japanese artist. They're fake tree houses and the park had a total of about 10(?) all together ... not to mention dogs dogs dogs! People loveeeee to walk dogs in parks 'round 'ere!

We went to two flea markets; one was indoors in a big warehouse and one was outdoors in a parking lot. I liked the latter better.
This was funny. As if the seller was worried that a table of brightly colored scarves wouldn't attract the women-folk enough, and so included a photo of a naked man.

Here's a dress at the first flea market (in Chelsea) that I really wanted but it was $25. It was such a thin fabric too, see through and thinner than a slip. So I walked away with slightly heavier heart...

Then on the way back to her dorm, we passed by a trendy urban store called Brooklyn Industries. I liked the display, but a hankerchief for $42.00 ??????

It must seem like everything in the city is crazy expensive. IT IS. But do not fear, I was able to get some cheap stuff at the outdoor flea market.

Downstairs was this amazingly hot guy ...

... and here I am in Madison Sq. Park. You can see more of those fake tree houses in the background.

Shirt:dad's, Cardigan:Target, Necklace:China

Everything I'm wearing is my sister's.

Just in case your confused, the post title is a reference to Home Alone 2 : Lost in NY. It's the scene where Marv and Harry escaped from prison and arrive in NYC via fish truck. Marv goes to Harry : Smell that? Harry : mmhmm fish... Marv gives him a disgusted look and says, peeved, Noooo... it's freedom. Then they go back and forth. No it's fish. No, freedom! It's FISH! hahhaha really funny.

Next up : outdoor flea market; sights and purchases, and The New Museum.
