When I was younger, I had a fascination with beehives. There was one in a planter on the back porch and I just wanted to irritate all the bees and see what it would be like to possibly get stung. So one day my sister and I grabbed the garden hose, stood a safe distance away, and watered the hive. The bees swarmed out scarily, we ran away, I thought I got stung (I didin't), and it was all a very exciting adventure.
My mom actually found a hive that looked like this, and it is now sitting on our retired piano. I would've taken a picture of it for comparative purposes but I can't find the camera. It's very small; baby-sized, and feels fragile and papery.
An artist/author named Douglas Coupland once chewed up the pages of his own books and fashioned them into hives to mimic how bees actually build their homes. He also did this with money.
